USF Department of Emergency Management To prepare for summer in Florida is to prepare for hurricane season. Our university community relies on the Department of Emergency Management to prepare and lead us in the worst of times. Their expertise applies to many scenarios beyond hurricane events, though. Always working behind the scenes, they conduct drills, stress testing the people and processes vital to success in a variety of emergency situations. When asked what it’s like to dedicate one’s career to serving in dark times, troubling scenarios and high-stress events, they replied with only, “How about you read the 2025 Hurricane Guide?” The members of the Department of Emergency Management are our Bold Bulls!
Rob Marlowe leads a communications tabletop exercise for USF employees.
Emergency Management offers several training programs for employees. Learn more on their website and schedule a session. You can also learn more here about AlertUSF, the university’s Emergency Notification System.
Hurricane season runs June 1-Nov. 30. Now is the time to brush up on this critical information, review your plan, talk to your supervisor about how your department will respond and prepare yourself for the next hurricane season. The Hurricane Guide is a great place to start. Stay safe.

AEDs Save Lives
Earlier this year, 12-year Air Force veteran and current student Teresa Booker jumped into action to save the life of a campus visitor experiencing a cardiac emergency. The prompt administration of CPR and use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) bought precious time while waiting for an ambulance to arrive. Clearly marked AED locations can be accessed throughout all USF campuses. For AED training information and instructions, visit the American Red Cross website.
