Key Shop The University of South Florida is one of the largest higher education institutions in the country, and many operations are comparable in size to those of a small city. Across our three campuses, there are 301 buildings, with most employees reading this likely having at least one key to access a campus building, office, classroom or lab.
The university's campuses contain over 35,000 locks and more than 100,000 active keys. That’s approximately one ton of keys, or fittingly, the same weight as an adult bull. The Key Shop plays a vital role in campus security and continuity. Whenever an employee is hired, a unit relocates, a key is lost or a new building opens, the Key Shop is engaged to cut, issue, rekey or maintain the necessary hardware.
Matthew Smith works in the Housing Key Shop, making good use of the library's original card catalog drawers.
Rick Muñoz cuts, sands and tests a new key at the St. Petersburg campus.
To efficiently carry out precision work at scale, multiple teams support USF's campuses. As the university continues to grow and change, the critical support they provide to almost every operation at USF makes them, without a doubt, Bold Bulls!
The Office of Internal Audit’s fraud awareness initiative includes a monthly “flash” report that highlights emerging topics and trends essential for every USF employee to know. Its new home is in this newsletter to help broaden awareness throughout the USF team, as your awareness is the first line of defense. Additional opportunities and resources may also be included each month. This month’s report reveals how something as simple as a lost badge/ID can open the door to identity theft, financial fraud and physical security breaches.
Mark your calendar:On Monday, June 9, from 11 a.m. to noon, Internal Audit will host the webinar "Preventing and Detecting Nonprofit Fraud," featuring Kyle Midkiff, managing director at CBIZ Forensic Consulting Group and a nationally recognized expert with over 30 years of experience in forensic accounting and fraud investigation.
Attention staff and administrative role employees: Remember to submit your goals in Oracle HR by 5 p.m. on Friday, May 30. Please visit the Performance Management webpage to see the timeline that details all the steps in the annual review process that must be completed by early September.
